This paper deals with teacher training procedures in West Germany. It reports on observations carried out inSeminare and in schools, and provides an analysis of the principles underlying the construction of lesson plans, and of those informing teacher education in a more general sense.  相似文献

We employed multiscale line operators (MSLO) in order to segment blood vessels in digital fundus images. Separately, a median filter technique was used in order to provide results that were compared to those of the MSLO. The green channel of the colour image was used, and both sets of results were further enhanced by subsequently employing a simple “randomly seeded” region-growing algorithm. We applied this approach to two sets of retinal images, namely, the ARIA (www.eyecharity.com/aria_online/) and STARE (www.ces.clemson.edu/∼ahoover/stare/) retinal image archives. The ARIA dataset contained colour fundus images from healthy subjects, diabetic subjects, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) subjects. Similarly, the STARE dataset contained images from both “normal” (i.e., healthy) and “abnormal” (i.e., diseased) eyes. Manual segmentations of the blood-vessel structure for all images in the ARIA and STARE datasets were obtained by a retinal image interpretation expert. These images were then taken to be our gold standards. Receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) curves were determined and the areas under the ROC curve (AZ) were obtained. A large increase in efficiency for our MSLO algorithm was observed for the entire datasets (ARIA AZ=0.899; STARE AZ=0.953) compared to basic thresholding alone (ARIA AZ=0.608; STARE AZ=0.753). Interestingly, the simple median filter algorithm followed by region growing also performed well (ARIA AZ=0.888; STARE AZ=0.947). Our results compared favourably to those results of previous segmentation procedures for the STARE dataset. As expected, the best results were found for the healthy control group for ARIA and for the normal subjects for STARE.  相似文献

The governance of higher education in colleges and college sectors that offer other types of education and training is distinctive in four main respects. First, governance structures are frequently separate and different for higher education and for other segments of tertiary education. Second, the size and scope of the higher‐level education taught by individual institutions will bear on the extent to which the management and governance arrangements in colleges are joint or divided. Third, the growth of small and distributed forms of higher‐level education has created specific problems and dilemmas for national and sub‐national governance. Fourth, the multiple missions of many colleges continue to pose questions about their educational and organisational coherence and governability. It is only in recent years that a base of evidence has been available to comprehend these developments, although definitional difficulties and data deficiencies remain.  相似文献

This article presents the findings of a small-scale research project which aimed to enable young people to reflect on their childhood responses to the popular films, 'Shrek' and 'Shrek 2'. During the project the participants develop new readings of the films in the light of their own recent experiences both of life and of other texts. The research draws on reader response theories to describe the complex readings of the films made by two young women from Rotherham. These readings include an engagement with an element of the films' narrative structure, the relationship dilemma between the main characters. There was also clearly recollection of enjoyment of the animation style, the humour and the fairytale intertextuality of the film. However, the strongest response was based on more recent experiences and involved considerable empathy with the characters. This has important implications for both educational research and classroom practice. This paper argues for an increased recognition of the significance of children and young people's engagements with popular children's films as integral to their development as readers and creators of narrative texts.  相似文献

The rectangular light source is more frequently encountered in engineering practice than any other form. Thus, both for artificial lighting and natural lighting, it is desirable to have convenient methods of obtaining the light distributions produced by rectangular sources. We have attempted to supply this need by calculating pharosage from sources of uniform helios and also for the non-uniform sources representing average overcast skies. Figures 5 to io are found to be particularly convenient in the visualization of light distributions.The results of these graphs are readily extended to any point and to surfaces tilted at any angle, provided that the plane of the illuminated surface does not cut the source.In conclusion, we wish to express our appreciation of the careful work of the computers: Messrs. Equations for the radiant flux through apertures are well-known. But the exact equations are cumbersome and give little direct insight into the behavior of aperture systems. The present paper considers simple approximate equations for rectangular apertures in parallel planes and in perpendicular planes. England has a two-sector system of higher education and further education. Shaped by legislation in 1988 and 1992, the architecture of this system was intended to concentrate each type of education in separate institutions and separate sectors. In recognition of these different missions, each territory came under different funding and regulatory regimes, with little or no movement of institutions anticipated between sectors. These arrangements continue, although Government policy is now to support and expand higher education in further education colleges. This policy turnaround is part of a larger strategy or experiment to change the future pattern of demand for, and supply of, undergraduate education. However, the college contribution to this new higher education is neither co-ordinated nor protected. Rather, further education colleges compete as well as collaborate with institutions in the higher education sector, under conditions of complexity, uncertainty and dependency.  相似文献

The majority of physiotherapists are trained in hospital‐based schools outside the mainstream of further and higher education. It has been assumed that professional standards of competence are maintained through central control of the syllabus, nationally set examinations and centrally appointed examiners.

During the last decade, a small number of schools have transferred to polytechnics and begun to develop internally examined courses. It is essential that students who are successful in these examinations are automatically eligible for Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

This paper describes the planning of an internally examined course which is acceptable to the professional bodies as well as to the Sheffield City Polytechnic. It explores some of the conflicts which have arisen concerning the extent to which control of the profession should extend to control of the curriculum in any and every institution. It concludes that the Chartered Society's need to control right of entry to the profession and to monitor standards of competence is reconcilable with lecturers’ desire to design a course and appropriate methods of assessment which reflect their overall rationale.  相似文献
